Description

The Pires de Lima school comprises blocks interconnected in various ways, with outdoor spaces always providing direct access to the classrooms – one of the model’s most striking features – whilst also incorporating a difference in level relative to the street via a large embankment. On the grounds of saving on labour costs, neither the reinforced concrete structure nor the external brick walls have any finish, much like the schools built in the post-war United Kingdom.

In recent years, due to the complex’s advanced state of disrepair, its future has been under discussion by the local council.
