Description
The Nuno Centeno Gallery is located within the Cooperativa dos Pedreiros complex on Rua da Alegria in Porto. The history of this stonemasons’ cooperative dates back to 1914, and it is renowned for having constructed some of Porto’s most iconic buildings, such as S. Bento Railway Station and Porto City Hall.
The building that now houses the gallery once served as a workshop, where blocks of stone, such as granite and marble, were cut to size and decorated with carved ornamentation. Although it retains some of its original features, the space has undergone several transformations to adapt this former warehouse into the gallery we know today.
