Description
Casa da Arquitetura is the only Portuguese institution dedicated exclusively to architecture that combines, simultaneously, a number of functions: regular exhibitions; the collection and conservation of archives; the promotion of the study and research of architects’ work; raising awareness amongst all sections of the public of the role of architecture; and the promotion of architectural tourism as a strategic national asset. Located in Matosinhos, the Casa da Arquitetura occupies a restored heritage complex comprising the former Quarteirão da Real Vinícola, covering a total area of five thousand square metres. It is now an indispensable feature of the architectural, cultural and tourist scene in the city of Matosinhos, the Porto region and the country as a whole — an award-winning and remarkable example of industrial heritage regeneration, designed by the architect Guilherme Machado Vaz.
